The Role
As the Senior Stress Engineer you will provide support to the multi‑disciplined engineering team in the delivery of client projects and/or workstreams. You will report directly to the Engineering Lead and be responsible for ensuring design analysis is fit for purpose to support delivery to quality, schedule and budget.
Main Responsibilities
- Work with design engineers to ensure designs are fit for purpose and identify solutions to problems identified by structural analysis.
- Perform engineering design analysis, primarily by hand calculation, backed up with FEA where required across multiple projects.
- Author and check design analysis documentation.
- Serve as the internal focal point for design analysis completed internally and by subcontractors.
- Influence designs during conceptual/scheme stages to ensure structural integrity, considering improvements such as design for manufacture and cost reduction.
- Approach analysis pragmatically and efficiently, working with engineers to realise design for manufacture.
- Provide scheduling and tasking information to Lead Engineers, Project Engineering Managers and Project Managers to support project delivery.
- Mentor and assist engineers undertaking design analysis tasks.
- Support the creation of SOPs to introduce and develop consistent analysis methods and rules across the engineering department, providing training as required.
- Support business change via effective change‑management processes in a nuclear engineering fast‑paced regulatory environment.
Experience / Qualifications
- MUST hold a Degree/HNC/HND in an Engineering discipline or equivalent.
- MUST have a demonstrable track record in stress analysis and hand calculation using Mathcad.
- MUST have a strong working knowledge of BS EN 13001 or BS 2573 parts 1&2 and Eurocode 3.
- MUST have experience in analysis/simulation of structures using ANSYS, ABAQUS or NASTRAN.
- MUST have worked within a highly regulated environment, preferably nuclear or defence, aerospace, medical/Pharmaceutical sectors, etc.
Other Desirable Experience / Quals
- Chartered Engineer (IMechE, IET).
- Experience with pressure vessel and piping codes such as PD 5500, ASME, PED.
- Experience conducting seismic analysis within the nuclear industry.
Security Clearance
All candidates MUST be eligible to obtain SC Security Clearance.
