Job summary

Wise is seeking an experienced backend leader to drive the Risk Assessment Platform in London. You will own core components, mentor engineers, and align product and compliance teams to deliver scalable risk workflows.

The role requires deep Java and microservice expertise, plus experience with data streaming and data lineage challenges at scale. This is a high-impact, hybrid position with RSU and a market salary.

• Solve complex data integrity problems including data lineage and validity.
• Define technical contracts between Product and Financial Crime teams.
• Build scalable end-to-end risk assessment workflows.
• Drive improvements in speed, latency, and cost metrics.
• Own fundamental components and libraries and collaborate across teams.
• Define the long-term technical strategy for the domain.
• Work with product, compliance, and financial crime stakeholders to enable safe risk assessments.

Salary: £66,000 - 106,000 per year

Requirements

• Deep backend expertise with solid, production-proven experience in Java and modern microservice architectures.
• Strong understanding of both synchronous and asynchronous communication protocols.
• Experience owning and designing fundamental components, shared libraries, and core infrastructure.
• Ability to act as a technical visionary, define a clear strategy for an ownership area, and mentor others.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills with the ability to align diverse stakeholders.
• Nice to have: experience with data streaming and processing frameworks.
• Nice to have: hands-on experience solving complex data validity or data lineage problems at scale.
• Nice to have: background in fintech, regtech, or high-throughput financial systems.
