Job summary

The Nottingham Building Society is seeking a Specialist Senior Mortgage Underwriter to assess and approve residential mortgage and further advance applications within delegated authority. You will manage complex cases, including non-standard income and adverse credit, ensuring fair and well-reasoned lending decisions.

You will provide technical leadership, support underwriting referrals, mentor colleagues and contribute to policy development while maintaining compliant, customer-focused outcomes.

Qualifications

• Extensive mortgage underwriting experience with strong expertise in credit risk and affordability assessment.
• In-depth knowledge of complex and specialist residential lending, including non-standard income and adverse credit.
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements (MCOB, Consumer Duty, AML, Financial Crime, Data Protection).
• Proven ability to assess complex customer circumstances and make well-reasoned lending decisions.
• Confidence managing policy exceptions and multiple risk factors.

Responsibilities

• Assess and approve residential mortgage and further advance applications within delegated authority.
• Manage complex specialist cases including self-employed applicants, adverse credit, multiple income streams, non-standard properties and Extraordinary Borrower (EOB) scenarios.
• Review affordability, creditworthiness and property security to inform lending decisions.
• Refer cases outside mandate or risk appetite appropriately.
