Main duties of the job
  • Histology Specimen Dissection: Manage the dissection area and specimen reception sections under the supervision of the Operational lead; develop and improve professional expertise; participate in training programmes for the advanced dissection role.
  • Working time allocation (illustrative): 80% dissection (A–E grade specimens, where training/competency exists) and 20% routine advanced BMS duties, including acting as the designated person responsible for managing/co‑ordinating activities within the histopathology laboratory (this may be shared with other Advances BMS posts).
  • Clinical audit will be required periodically to demonstrate ongoing clinical effectiveness.
  • Performance management and appraisals of junior staff; manage absence and return‑to‑work procedures.

  • MSc, FIBMS or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • IBMS Diploma of Expert or Practice in Histological Dissection or registered and working towards the DEP, or demonstrable extensive relevant experience post‑HCPC registration

Desirable criteria

  • Management Training

  • Health and Safety experience

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of all aspects of the specialist subject
