Job summary

MDA Space is seeking an experienced hardware design engineer to join the Sat Connect IC team in the UK. You will translate system requirements into hardware architecture, design EVBs for ASIC validation, and optimize power delivery for high-performance ASIC-based systems.

The role requires broad expertise in SerDes, RF analog fundamentals, MCU-based hardware, and robust PCB design with Cadence tools. BPSS screening applies for UK roles, with a strong emphasis on security and compliance.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of Hardware Architecture and System-Level Design.
• Experience designing Evaluation Boards (EVBs) for ASIC validation and characterization.
• Experience with High-Speed SerDes; data rates 26.4 Gbps+ desirable.
• Basic knowledge of High-Frequency RF Analog Design; RF circuits at 10 GHz+ desirable.
• Experience with MCU and Microprocessor-based hardware design.
• Experience with UART, I2C, SPI, SDIO, DDR, Ethernet interfaces.
• Strong Knowledge of Power Supply Design, Power Sequencing and High-Current PDN.
• Experience with Power Integrity, PDN Optimization, IR Drop Analysis.
• Strong SI principles and high-speed design methodologies.
• Cadence OrCAD Capture, Allegro or equivalent PCB design tools.

Responsibilities

• Translate system requirements into hardware specifications and architecture.
• Create EVBs for ASIC validation and characterization.
• Design and optimize clock networks for high-speed interfaces.
• Develop power supply architectures and high-current delivery solutions.
• Define PCB stack-up and HDI requirements; collaborate on layout reviews.
• Perform SI analysis for critical digital signals and debug hardware issues.
• Support prototype bring-up, validation, and hardware documentation.
• Create test plans and validation procedures.
