Job summary

Co-op Group is seeking a Principal Solution Architect & Practice Manager to shape technology strategy and lead a team of Solution Architects. The role blends architectural leadership with people management, delivering high‑quality solutions that align with business goals.

Hybrid working, with the Manchester city centre office visited once or twice a month. You will own end-to-end solution architecture for key initiatives, define roadmaps, mentor architects, and collaborate with engineering

Qualifications

• Significant experience as a Solution Architect with a track record delivering complex solutions.
• Strong architectural judgement balancing business, operational and technical needs.
• Experience coaching, mentoring and developing others while fostering an inclusive team environment.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills for varied audiences.
• Collaborative mindset with ability to share knowledge and build relationships.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end solution architecture for key initiatives, ensuring designs align with business goals and technology strategy.
• Define and maintain solution roadmaps that support long-term priorities and architectural direction.
• Lead architectural decision-making, balancing standard capabilities with bespoke solutions where appropriate.
• Support delivery of scalable, resilient, secure, well-integrated solutions across the technology landscape.
• Coach and develop a team of Solution Architects, fostering growth and performance.
• Build a strong architecture community with cross-team collaboration and continuous improvement.
