Job summary

Starling Bank's Engine by Starling is seeking a seasoned software engineer and solution architect to translate complex banking requirements into scalable client solutions. You will shape technical designs and support the delivery of Engine deployments across Europe.

This client-facing role requires strong API, cloud, and integration expertise, excellent communication, and the ability to work across sales, delivery, and product teams.

Qualifications

• Experience across the software delivery lifecycle for end-to-end solutions.
• Experience designing and integrating software services (REST, OpenAPI, sequence diagrams).
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and large-scale cloud apps.
• Client-facing role with stakeholder relationship building.
• Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience delivering complex messaging to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Fluent English language skills.
• Multilingual能力 with European languages (French/Spanish a plus).
• Experience in retail/business banking or payments.

Responsibilities

• Explain Engine technology and architecture to uncover client requirements and support design of client solutions.
• Engage in both sales and delivery phases and ongoing client success.
• Collaborate with Engine Technology, Delivery, Product, Client Success and Business Development teams.
• Become an Engine expert to communicate capabilities to diverse audiences.
• Lead on technical designs during Engine implementation.
• Build relationships with stakeholders within clients and SI partners.
• Work with clients and SI partners on implementation details of Engine.
• Provide solutions to identified requirements and work with Product and Engineering to fulfill them.
• Shape product roadmap and support clients with additional capabilities.
• Help clients maximize Engine capabilities to meet requirements.
• Document scope and roadmap decisions for future delivery waves.
• Act as technical champion for existing clients and ensure ongoing success.
• Own technical aspects of client deliveries and collaborate with SI partners to overcome challenges.
• Provide guidance to client engineering teams using API specs and diagrams.
• Collaborate with Client Success to troubleshoot issues and architect innovative solutions.

Job description

Salary: £65,000 - 105,000 per year

Requirements

• Experience of end-to-end software engineering / solution architecture across the software delivery lifecycle
• Experience with software service design and integration, such as RESTful APIs, OpenAPI specification and sequence diagrams
• Experience of cloud infrastructure and large-scale cloud applications
• Experience working in a client-facing role and building relationships with stakeholders
• Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills
• Experience delivering complex messaging to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Fluent English language skills
• Fluent in at least one relevant regional European language, ideally French or Spanish
• Experience relating to retail or business banking, core banking, card processing or payments
• Experience of delivery and implementation of core banking or large-scale digital transformation programmes, application migration and solution integration
• Commercial acumen with experience of building business cases
• Experience in a SaaS organisation in a Client Solutions or Client Engineering role
• Knowledge of financial regulations around the world
• Speaking multiple European languages is a massive plus

• Work closely with clients and SI partners on the technical detail of implementing Engine
• Provide solutions to identified requirements and work with our Product and engineering teams to fulfil them
• Shape our product roadmap and support existing clients with additional capabilities to meet their strategic aims
• Help clients maximise Engines current and future capabilities to solve their requirements
• Document scope and roadmap decisions to guide subsequent delivery waves
• Act as a technical champion for existing clients and ensure their ongoing success
• Take ownership of the technical aspects of client deliveries and collaborate with SI partners to overcome challenges and achieve seamless integrations
• Provide expert guidance to client engineering teams using documentation, API specifications and sequence diagrams
• Collaborate with our Client Success team to troubleshoot technical issues, translate client needs into new technical requirements and architect innovative solutions that enhance the Engine platform
