Job summary

WSP is seeking a Principal Soil Scientist to lead soil sector work across UK projects within the Ground & Water team. You’ll oversee field surveys, reports, and data management, while guiding junior staff and collaborating with related teams across Environmental Planning, Landscape and Sustainability.

The role is largely office-based with on-site training and travel, combining a hybrid working pattern with time in WSP offices and at client sites.

Qualifications

Degree in Soil Science with 5–10 years practical experience
Experience in Agricultural Land Classification (ALC) surveys and Soil Resource Surveys
Groundwork in HSE procedures (CDM) for site work
Knowledge of EIA methodology for Environmental Statements is desirable
Experience liaising with clients, authorities and stakeholders
Chartered or working towards chartership with a professional body
Full driving license and willingness to work outdoors

Responsibilities

Lead and support fieldwork/site visits and produce reports for ALC, Soil Resource Assessment and Environmental Statements
Manage data for technical reporting and support colleagues
Liaise with clients, landowners, contractors and regulators
Support growth of the Ground & Water soil team within WSP
