Senior Software Engineer - Platform Operations

📣A bit about the role.

As part of a Platform Engineering team, you will work closely with engineers, product managers, designers and stakeholders to help solve our customers' problems and directly impact their (and their dog's) daily lives. As a Senior Engineer in this team, you'll be the driving force in a number of key app and web development projects that play a huge part in the growth of Butternut.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Contribute to the architecture and development direction of the team to ensure quality code is written and excellent products are built.
  • Work across the stack to deliver quality, maintainable code. This role is more backend weighted but you will be expected to work across the stack at times.
  • Collaborate and learn with other team members via pair programming, mentoring, code reviews, and technical talks.
  • Learn about and champion best practices in code, architecture & processes.

You'll get to use a lot of exciting technology here at Butternut including:

  • Ruby on Rails
  • Heroku
  • AWS
  • Terraform
  • Github Actions for CI/CD
  • Work closely with PM's, designers and other engineers to build features and products to delight our customers and make their dogs' lives better.
  • Work across the stack which includes React Native (mobile), React and Ruby on Rails.
  • Ensure the systems we build are modular, scalable and reliable.

  • Significant commercial experience in a similar senior backend engineering position, on a Ruby on Rails or equivalent app.
  • An interest in developing your skills and coaching others around you.
  • A true motivation to ship customer-facing products that have a direct impact on commercials.
  • Passion for startups.
  • Obsessed with dogs!
