Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior backend software engineer to design and deliver scalable, resilient systems for high-volume payment platforms. You will own features end-to-end—from design through testing, deployment, and production support—working with cross-functional teams to ensure reliability.

You bring strong Java engineering expertise, experience building APIs and enterprise services in distributed environments, and a rigorous focus on observability, CI/CD, security, and operational

Job description

• Design, build, and evolve payment services and capabilities that enable seamless customer transactions across M&S digital platforms.
• Develop resilient backend services, APIs, and integrations that support millions of customer payment journeys every year.
• Own features end-to-end, taking responsibility for solution design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Help shape the technical direction of the Payments platform, balancing performance, scalability, resilience, security, and cost through modern engineering practices.
• Champion engineering excellence through clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, helping establish best practices across engineering teams.
• Drive operational excellence by designing systems with observability, monitoring, resilience, and supportability at their core.
• Utilise tools such as Dynatrace to improve platform visibility, monitoring, alerting, and service reliability.
