OpenAI is seeking engineers to design scalable foundations for detecting and enforcing against harm across its platforms. You will work with policy, trust and safety, legal, investigations, and data science teams to translate complex harms into robust system designs.

You will contribute by analyzing backend and data systems, learning from world‑class experts, and iterating on solutions that reduce risk while enabling safe AI deployment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in backend and data systems.
• 2+ years experience in trust and safety analysis, investigation, and/or operations.
• Interest in learning from top experts on harms committed with AI, and collaboration in an interdisciplinary team.
• Ability to dive into codebase, infer how it works, and suggest improvements.
• Strong communication skills to clearly share knowledge with others.
