Job summary

Wise in London is looking for a mid–senior backend engineer to join the Payin Platform team. You will build the Payin Session and Payment abstractions that let product teams integrate payment methods once and scale to millions of transactions.

You will own a high‑volume platform used across Wise, focusing on correctness, reliability, and thoughtful API design, collaborating with product teams, and driving end‑to‑end customer value with data‑driven decisions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Java, Kotlin, Python, or Go.
• Strong experience with Spring framework, relational databases, and distributed systems like Kafka.
• Excellent cross-team communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience writing testable code and using unit/integration testing.
• Commitment to best coding practices, code reviews, and open feedback.
• Strong ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Drive to improve team culture and processes.

Salary: £66,000 - 106,000 per year

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in Java, Kotlin, Python, or Go
• Strong experience with Spring framework, relational databases, and distributed and concurrent systems such as Kafka
• Excellent cross-team communication skills, including the ability to discuss complex technical topics with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience writing testable code and using testing strategies such as unit testing and integration testing
• Commitment to best coding practices, code reviews, and open feedback
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
• A drive to improve team culture and processes
• A strong product mindset and passion for customer experience, with the ability to make data-driven decisions
• Ability to work independently, take end-to-end ownership, and drive customer problems through to completion
