Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is building a cutting-edge energy platform that powers smart grids and enables utilities to deliver exceptional customer experiences. The Customer Entities team focuses on accounts, identities, and verified addresses to support reliable communications.

You will work with large-scale data and a modern tech stack, applying domain modelling and robust software practices to help shape a cleaner energy future. This is a hands-on role in a climate-conscious company.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to write robust, scalable software in Python/Django.
• Experience modelling complex domains and data structures.
• Strong knowledge of HTTP/REST APIs and data interchange formats.
• Experience with asynchronous task processing (Celery) and Postgres.

Responsibilities

• Own the UK address and customer identity representations within the customer system.
• Tackle challenging domain modelling for the UK utilities market with high attention to detail.
• Process large-scale data streams (millions of meter readings) and feed into ML pipelines.
• Contribute to a disruption-focused energy platform that enables greener energy solutions.

Where you'll fit in

The Customer Entities team sits at the centre of the the company Customer system; providing the foundations for the customer's experience. It provides representations of the core parts of the system - an account and customer's identity. It also provides addresses information to the system, which is key to many parts of the system, such as ensuring comms are sent to actual verified locations. You will be helping with further enhancing the relatively new addresses product with features such as verifying address information.

What you’ll own

• We have lots of difficult design challenges to solve. The UK utilities market is complicated, outdated and process-heavy - there's an awful lot of domain modelling that we need to get right. Strong attention to detail is essential.
• We have challenging technical problems to solve; like processing tens of millions of meter readings a day. We need the right technology in place to handle this smoothly as well as feeding data into a machine learning pipeline that models and predicts consumption. Or thinking about how we adapt the company to improve other utilities like water and broadband.
• There's a great opportunity for disruption in the UK energy market. The big suppliers still dominate, but are not exactly popular. The energy landscape is changing as we move to more dis-aggregated forms of generation, with less predictability, more dynamism and smarter technology.
• You’ll be working for a company that’s fighting climate change. Our generation arm is the largest investor in solar generation in the UK, and is funding wind and anaerobic digestion. As a supplier, we're helping people to use greener technology and renewable energy, all helping move the UK towards a lower carbon future.

What you bring to the party

We're looking for someone with a general interest in technology and problem-solving; someone diligent and thoughtful. It would be helpful to have experience/expertise in the following (in rough priority order):

• Python
• Django (or equiv. web framework)
• Domain modelling
• HTTP and REST APIs
• Writing robust and fault-tolerant software
• Celery and async processing
• Postgres
