Job summary

Navan is hiring an experienced Expense Engineer to own the expense product end-to-end in London. You will design and ship backend services (Java/Spring Boot) and web interfaces with AI components, focusing on accuracy, latency, and scalable data flows.

You will work across international teams, mentor others, and ensure robust observability, auditing, and compliance in financial contexts. Based in London or willing to relocate, you will join a fast-paced, tech-driven environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building production software (8+ for Staff).
• Depth in at least one: Java/Spring Boot, TypeScript, or Python services.
• Experience with AWS cloud and relational data modeling.

Responsibilities

• Design and ship backend or frontend features with AI integration.
• Own APIs and event-driven data flows at scale.
• Build or extend LLM-backed agents and tooling.
• Improve document extraction, latency, and cost.
• Instrument production with observability and dashboards.
• Collaborate with Product and Design across time zones.
• Ensure correctness in financial systems with auditability.
• Mentor others and produce design docs.
