Job summary

Simple Online Healthcare in Glasgow is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (AI Native) to own services end-to-end, from design through production, building a healthcare platform with strong observability and reliability.

You’ll work with a modern stack (TypeScript/Node.js, Python/Java), AWS serverless tooling, and AI-assisted development, championing quality, collaboration, and scalable architecture in a rapidly growing company.

Qualifications

• Production software experience in TS/Node.js (preferred) or Python/Java.
• Cloud-native systems experience on AWS with Lambda/ECSFargate/API Gateway.
• Strong automated testing, CI/CD and modern delivery practices.
• Comfort using generative AI tools to accelerate development.
• Deep understanding of architecture, clean code, performance, observability and maintainability.
• Ownership mindset focused on outcomes, not just code.
• Collaborative, able to pair and share knowledge in small teams.

Senior Software Engineer (AI Native), Glasgow, Hybrid / Remote

Salary: £65,000 to £80,000

Every patient journey we fix starts with a service someone has to design, build and keep running. You'll take that work from first spec to production, owning the architecture, the observability and the reliability as you go. The standards you set now will be the ones every future engineer inherits, and few senior roles give you that much say over how a healthcare platform is built from the ground up.

What you'll be doing

• Join a lean, senior engineering squad and own services end to end, from design through to production.
• Work spec first. AI generates the code, tests and documentation, and you architect, review, integrate and assure the quality of what ships.
• Build the core components of Simple's healthcare platform, with the observability, reliability and performance to back them up.
• Codify reusable patterns and help define the golden paths that every pod will follow.
• Shape our engineering culture through mentoring, pairing, reviewing each other's work and sharing what you learn as the team grows.

What we're looking for

Essential

• Experience building production software in a modern language such as TypeScript and Node.js (preferred), Python or Java. A strong engineering foundation in any of these is enough.
• Experience building cloud native systems, ideally on AWS, using Lambda, ECS/Fargate, API Gateway, or serverless and containerised architectures.
• Strong skills in automated testing, CI/CD and modern delivery practices.
• Confidence using generative AI tools to accelerate development, or a clear willingness to adopt them.
• A deep understanding of software fundamentals, including architecture, clean code, performance, observability and maintainability.
• A strong ownership mindset. You care about outcomes, not just code.
• An excellent collaborator who thrives in small, high trust teams and is comfortable pairing, sharing knowledge and communicating across pods.

Desirable

• Experience in healthcare, digital services, patient journeys or regulated environments.
• Full stack experience, including React or Next.js when required. Your core strength is backend, cloud native systems and platform architecture.
• Experience building scalable platforms, reusable components or high leverage engineering systems.
• Curiosity about AI native development and excitement about being part of an early shift in how engineering gets done.
