Job description
Role: Senior Software Engineer
Location: Peterborough, Portsmouth, Tunbridge Wells or Sunderland

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with Azure experience for a fast-paced development team to progress development and transformation of our application estate. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with good knowledge and practical Azure development skills.

The successful candidate would be a full stack C# engineer with server-side experience, particularly using Azure. You will be working with existing web & application developers on our various applications, across our wide variety of business areas, including our Quote & Buy journey platform and Broker Tools applications.

This is a hands-on role working with and building APIs and serverless functions with Azure service bus and other components for integration with our existing and new systems as well as 3rd party integrations.

The role would be highly individualised and allow growth and exposure in multiple disciplines and the successful candidate would be tasked with work on a range of applications and services for an incredibly diverse group of companies

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  • Build new applications and components and add or amend existing business logic as per requirements
  • Understand and discuss business requirements and technical considerations such as non-functional requirements
  • Determine best approach and solution to meet business and team needs
  • Develop application code for components and logic as needed to implement changes requested
  • Discuss requirements and considerations with QA test analysts
  • Identify deployment aspects and work with DevOps colleagues to implement appropriately
  • Liaise with colleagues to arrange and deploy application changes using the appropriate tools and processes
  • Document and share knowledge and experience with other team members to improve overall team capabilities
  • Diagnose issues and action problem resolution in development, test and production services as needed
  • Liaise with colleagues in IT, other departments and 3rd parties as required to resolve blockers and progress deliveries
  • Discuss and implement best practices with senior developers and architects
  • Upskill and share knowledge with other members of the team to ensure good coverage
Skills, Experience and Knowledge
  • Strong commercial experience of server-side development with C#, Asp.Net MVC, WebAPI REST and JSON
  • Practical knowledge of Azure including Serverless Functions, BLOB storage, Azure Tables and Service Bus Queues
  • Experience of consuming and building APIs in Azure using tools such as Swagger and Postman is desirable for all new applications and newer existing solutions.
  • Understanding of databases including ability to query SQL Server using T-SQL
  • Experience with accessing databases with Entity Framework or EF Core
  • Reasonable knowledge of JQuery & Javascript for AJAX requests would be expected. Any familiarity with Angular and React.js would be useful but not essential.
