Overview

In this role, you'll lead the design, development, and deployment of high-quality, cloud-native software solutions using platforms like AWS and Azure, and technologies such as Kubernetes, Java, Python, and CI/CD pipelines. You will support application modernisation, system integration, and service reliability, championing engineering and accessibility best practices. You will work across multiple programming languages to help build and modernise the systems that power the UK\'s largest government department. Your work supports tools used by 100,000+ colleagues to deliver vital services to millions. The position requires Security Check clearance and you will work on impactful projects that touch and help millions of people.

Responsibilities
  • Full-Stack Development: Design, build, and deploy end-to-end software solutions using modern languages and frameworks such as Java, Python, Node.js, and React.
  • Cloud & DevOps Expertise: Work with cloud platforms like AWS and Azure, and use Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code technologies like Terraform.
  • Technical Leadership: Lead engineering teams, set technical direction, and mentor junior developers while promoting best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Owners, Architects, Designers, and Testers to deliver user-focused, policy-aligned solutions.
  • Problem Solving & Modernisation: Analyse complex systems, modernise legacy applications, and ensure service continuity through effective incident and problem management.

About the Role & Benefits

Hybrid Working: A hybrid model with time spent at home (around 40%) and in a hub (around 60%).

Pay: Competitive pay of up to £78,517.

Pension: Civil service pension with employer contributions up to 28.97% (up to £19,758 per year).

Holidays: 26 days of annual leave, rising to 31 days with service, plus up to 3 extra flexi-days per month and public holidays.
