Job summary

McKinsey & Company's QuantumBlack AIdivision in the UK seeks a senior software professional to lead architecture decisions and co-create innovative, scalable products. You will mentor client teams, drive Agile practices, and shape engineering strategy across frontend, backend, data tooling, and ML platforms.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team of software engineers, AI engineers, and data scientists to deliver user-centric solutions across industries.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's/Master's/PhD in CS, ML, or related field.
• 7–8+ years of software development with strong full-stack exp.
• Experience collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Frontend: TypeScript, React, Angular, Vue, Next.js, Tailwind.
• Backend: Python, Node.js, Java/Spring, C#/.NET.
• Databases/ETL: SQL, NoSQL, vector DBs, ETL tooling.
• LLM frameworks, prompt orchestration, cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP), Docker, CI/CD.
• Automated testing, logging, monitoring, reliability.
• Engineering best practices: design patterns, TDD, code review, OWASP.
• Agile leadership, sprint ceremonies, and developer capability building.
• Strong time management and excellent English communication.

Job description

Salary: £80,000 - 90,000 per year

Requirements:

• We require a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD-level degree in computer science, machine learning, applied statistics, mathematics, engineering, artificial intelligence, or a related discipline.
• We require 7–8+ years of experience in software development, with significant full-stack web application development experience strongly preferred.
• We require experience working collaboratively with technical and non-technical team members and stakeholders.
• We require hands-on experience and a willingness to learn across frontend technologies such as TypeScript, React, Angular, Vue, Next.js, and Tailwind.
• We require hands-on experience and a willingness to learn across backend technologies such as Python, Node.js, Java/Spring, and C#/.NET.
• We require hands-on experience and a willingness to learn across databases and data tooling such as SQL, NoSQL, vector databases, and ETL.
• We require experience with LLM frameworks, prompt orchestration, agent frameworks, MCPs, evaluation frameworks, and cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, and GCP, including Docker and CI/CD.
• We require a strong focus on automated testing, logging, monitoring, and overall system reliability.
• We require experience modeling and coaching others in engineering best practices such as design patterns, customer-centric design, test-driven development, code refactoring, code review, and OWASP Top 10 security awareness.
• We require experience leading in Agile teams, including coaching and modeling Agile mindsets in sprint ceremonies, work definition, and developer capability building.
• We require exceptional time management to meet responsibilities in a complex and largely autonomous work environment.
• We require strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English, with the ability to adjust style for different perspectives and seniority levels.
