DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support and empower millions of people.

The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?
  • Full-Stack Development Expertise: Proficiency in multiple programming languages such as Java, Node.js, and Python, with experience across the entire technical stack including frontend, backend, APIs, databases, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Cloud and DevOps Proficiency: Strong knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS and Azure, and hands-on experience with cloud-native tools such as Kubernetes, AWS Lambda, and Terraform, alongside best practices in CI/CD and automated testing.
  • Leadership and Mentoring: Proven ability to lead engineering teams, drive technical strategy, and mentor junior developers to foster a culture of continuous learning and high performance.
Delivery. Work. Projects.

You will be a senior member of the Digital Modernisation and Efficiency team, shaping digital services used by millions of people.

You will mentor junior engineers, promote best practices like CI/CD and automated testing, and ensure systems are secure, resilient, and accessible. You will need to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that really work for the people that use them.

You will also be hands on when you need to be, coding and solving problems.

You will be part of a dynamic, agile working environment with a strong emphasis on continuous learning and professional development.

Our engineers are encouraged to innovate and contribute as part of a supportive community of practice. We have flexible working arrangements and opportunities for career progression, whatever that means to you.
