Job description

A Senior Software Developer with front-office power and gas trading experience is needed to join a leading business in the energy and commodities markets. You’ll join a development team aligned to the trading desk, building and enhancing the systems traders rely on every day.

This is a hands‑on, senior engineering role with real influence over architecture and design. You’ll work directly with traders and business users, so the team needs someone who already understands how power and gas trading works and can contribute from day one with minimal ramp-up. You’ll help modernise existing platforms, move legacy systems to the cloud and set the standard for how software is built, favouring pragmatic, simple solutions over unnecessary complexity.

As a Senior Software Developer, you will:

• Design, build and test trading applications using C# .NET, with some React or Angular on the front end
• Shape the architecture and design of the team’s systems, applying strong engineering standards
• Lead the migration of legacy platforms to the cloud alongside the platform engineering team
• Partner with traders and front‑office users to understand their needs and deliver production‑quality solutions
• Support live trading systems and resolve issues quickly and professionally
• Bring new ideas to the team and help raise engineering standards

Key requirements:

• Recent front‑office experience in commodities trading, with strong power and gas knowledge
• Proven experience working directly with traders and front‑office users
• Experience supporting live trading systems in a regulated environmentCloud experience, ideally AWS, plus Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform
• Modern CI/CD and DevOps practices, BDD/TDD, and strong software design using SOLID and design patterns
• Front‑end experience with React or Angular and TypeScript
• Desirable: Docker, Kubernetes, messaging frameworks, event‑driven or streaming architectures, and observability
