Job summary

Penguin Random House in London is recruiting a Senior Software Developer to join the Technology team. You will modernise integrations, focus on C#/.NET, APIs, microservices and cloud-based integration, and mentor other developers while strengthening engineering practices.

You will help design secure, scalable solutions, participate in automated testing, CI/CD, and work with Azure-based technologies. The role offers hybrid working from the London office with occasional travel and a generous bonus

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience with C#/.NET including ASP.NET Core MVC and Web API development.
  • Experience designing REST APIs, microservices and event-driven solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of SOLID principles and clean architecture.
  • Experience with Docker and containerisation and automated testing (xUnit).
  • Experience with SQL Server and data access technologies.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD and Git-based development workflows.
  • Experience designing event-driven solutions using Azure Service Bus / Kafka or equivalent messaging.
  • Familiarity with securing APIs using OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect / JWT.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools with a focus on code quality.

Responsibilities

Job Description

We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Software Developer to join our Technology team in London on a permanent basis.

You’ll join our Integration team at an important point in our journey, helping us to modernise and migrate our integration landscape. This is a hands‑on senior development role, with a strong focus on C# and .NET, APIs, microservices and cloud-based integration.

Alongside building and improving solutions yourself, you’ll use your technical experience to support and mentor other developers, sharing knowledge and helping to strengthen engineering practices across the team.

The role

Key responsibilities:

Develop and modernise integrations using C# and .NET, including Azure Logic Apps, Function Apps, containerised microservices and event‑driven microservices.

Build, integrate and manage APIs that connect services and platforms across our Technology landscape.

Design and develop secure, maintainable solutions using established engineering principles and patterns.

Work with Azure messaging and integration technologies to support event‑driven architectures.

Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD and Git‑based development practices.

Work closely with Architects and other developers to shape effective technical solutions.

Create and maintain clear process, service and technical documentation.

Mentor and support other developers, sharing your technical knowledge and helping colleagues to develop their skills in Azure Integration Services.

Help ensure solutions are secure, well maintained and compliant with internal governance.

What you’ll bring

Strong professional experience of developing with C# and .NET, including ASP.NET Core MVC and Web API development.

Experience of designing and building REST APIs, microservices and event‑driven solutions.

Strong knowledge of software engineering principles, including design patterns, SOLID principles and clean architecture.

Experience with Docker and containerisation, as well as automated testing using xUnit or similar frameworks.

Experience working with SQL Server and data access technologies.

Good knowledge of CI/CD and Git‑based development.

Experience of designing event‑driven solutions using Azure Service Bus, Apache Kafka or equivalent messaging technologies.

Experience implementing secure APIs using OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT and Microsoft Entra ID.

Experience using AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Cursor or similar, while maintaining engineering quality.

An interest in mentoring other developers and sharing technical knowledge across the team.

The salary for this opportunity is c.£74,000 depending on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus a generous bonus scheme and benefits.

While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important.

For this role we expect that you will work from our head office in Embassy Gardens, London a minimum of 2 days per week (Tuesday & Thursday) with additional days for team meetings, townhalls etc as required. There may also be occasional travel to our warehouse site in Frating, Colchester.
