Job Title: Senior Software Developer

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: Edinburgh or Plymouth

Working style: Hybrid

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Software Developer who will design, develop, test and implement efficient solutions that meet business and customer requirements.

About the role

You will develop complex solutions within your technical expertise, carefully assessing the impact of changes to existing applications and ensuring all designs are documented and agreed in advance to set standards.

Your code consistently meets group guidelines and quality requirements and is thoroughly tested in close collaboration with the test team to identify issues early.

You are responsible for safely implementing solutions into production environments, work closely with team members, contribute to best practices by sharing knowledge and experience, and also review the work of others to maintain high standards across the team.

About you
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable collaborating within a team environment.
  • Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle.
  • Familiar with agile development practices and methodologies.
  • Proactive in identifying and resolving technical challenges.
  • Confident in writing and maintaining backend systems and APIs.
  • Experience working with infrastructure as code (IaC) and user administration tools like AWS Cognito.
  • Ideally, you'll also bring experience with Serverless architecture and AWS CDK
Required Skills
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages (e.g. Node.js).
  • Strong backend development experience, particularly in API design and implementation.
  • Solid knowledge of AWS services, especially Lambda and Cognito.
  • Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) and automated testing frameworks.
  • Strong database expertise, including SQL and MySQL.
  • Familiarity with writing and managing APIs.
