The Senior Social Worker / Senior Practitioner will provide expert professional practice within Adult Social Care, with a specific focus on complex adult safeguarding cases. The role is responsible for managing high-risk cases, undertaking statutory safeguarding duties under the Care Act 2014 (Section 42), and providing casework supervision to other team members. The post holder will play a key role in ensuring safe, timely and proportionate safeguarding responses through effective multi-agency working.
Responsibilities
- Manage a complex caseload of adult safeguarding cases, ensuring appropriate assessment, risk management and decision-making.
- Screen, triage and complete adult safeguarding concerns in line with Care Act Section 42 duties.
- Develop, implement and review protection plans in collaboration with service users and partner agencies.
- Provide casework supervision, guidance and professional support to social workers and other team members.
- Work effectively within multi-agency frameworks including health, police, housing and voluntary sector partners.
- Maintain accurate, timely and high-quality case records in line with statutory and organisational requirements.
- Contribute to service improvement, quality assurance and best practice in safeguarding adults.
- Ensure all practice complies with safeguarding legislation, policies and professional standards.
Qualifications
- Significant experience working within Adult Social Care safeguarding services.
- Demonstrable experience managing complex and high-risk safeguarding cases.
- Strong knowledge of the Care Act 2014, particularly Section 42 responsibilities.
- Experience providing casework supervision to other practitioners.
- Proven ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary and multi-agency environments.
- IT literate with experience using electronic case management systems.
- Qualified Social Worker with a relevant professional qualification.
- Registered with Social Work England (SWE) - mandatory.
- Enhanced DBS (or ability to obtain).
- Minimum of 3 GCSEs (A-C or equivalent) including English and Mathematics.
- Proven experience in a similar Senior Social Worker or Senior Practitioner role.
- Excellent time management, organisational and decision-making skills.
- Strong professional judgement and risk assessment capability.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, confidentiality and professional ethics.
