Job summary

West Sussex County Council is seeking a Senior Social Worker for the Working Age Mental Health Western team in Chichester. The role is full-time (37 hours) with a hybrid work pattern and regular travel across the surrounding area.

You will provide statutory social work services to people with complex mental health needs, including dual diagnosis and aftercare. A Social Work degree and registration with Social Work England are required, with opportunities for professional development and flexible

Qualifications

• Experience of working proactively as a member of the team to make an accurate strengths-based assessment of needs in complex situations and negotiate and implement effective plans and outcomes (in line with relevant legislation).
• Demonstrable evidence of leadership skills when working in partnership with people, carers, colleagues and external agencies in complex situations to meet people’s outcomes.
• Experience of managing situations with complex and competing risks, using a risk enablement approach and evidence-based practice.
• Experience of analysis and interpretation of complex people related information and data to prioritise needs and formulate plans for intervention and service provision.
• Experience of leading safeguarding enquiries.
• Ability to provide supervision and develop the capabilities of less experienced social care practitioners including contributing to performance management.
• Mentor and coach students and apprentices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a range of stakeholders to provide clear advice and guidance and interventions.
• Ability to recognise the limits of own accountability and responsibility, and to seek appropriate support, advice, and supervision, and to prioritise and organise work and meet agreed performance expectations.
• Sound and accurate IT skills to ensure effective record keeping, compliant with data protection and respecting confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• As a Social Worker, you will be responsible for providing a statutory social work service to individuals with complex mental health and dual diagnosis needs.
• You will work in partnership with health colleagues and allied agencies to support vulnerable individuals to complete all statutory work such as Care Act assessments, s117 aftercare planning meetings, safeguarding, Mental Capacity Assessments, Best Interest Meetings, and other social care tasks.
• Your office base will be in Chichester, with opportunities to work hybrid from home part of the week.
• There will be a requirement to travel to surrounding areas and sometimes outside normal hours, and a driving licence is desirable.
