What you will do:
  • Provide a service in line with statutory requirements and departmental priorities.
  • Participate in comprehensive training sessions, enhancing your career development while benefiting the service.
  • Engage in regular supervision and team meetings to maintain a cohesive and supportive environment.
  • Join the emergency duty rota and contribute to written recording and new technology applications where needed.
  • Respond to enquiries from the public and other agencies, ensuring prompt and effective service delivery.
  • Liaise with external agencies like the police and health services, as well as colleagues across divisions and council departments.
  • Take responsibility for individual client case planning, upholding professional standards.
  • Implement equal opportunities in both professional practice and service delivery.
  • Make informed decisions within the departmental priority framework, consulting management as necessary.
  • Undertake service development tasks and stay informed about departmental policies and procedures.
Specialist Child Care Duties:
  • Provide a preventative and rehabilitative service according to the Children’s Act, facilitating resources for family support.
  • Assess situations where children require protection or accommodation, mindful of equal opportunities.
  • Plan effectively with carers as partners in decisions concerning children’s welfare.
  • Ensure children remain with their families unless legally untenable, planning a permanent future when necessary.
  • Provide emergency assessments where children are at risk, liaising with other department sections and agencies.
Child Care Senior Social Worker Duties:
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and manage complex caseloads involving multi-disciplinary work, including court and protection cases.
  • Assist absent colleagues as needed and chair meetings under the direction of management.
  • Supervise students and facilitate their practice teaching, while also supporting new staff inductions.
  • Represent the department in multi-agency forums and training, contributing to service excellence.
  • Oversee the supervision of Family Support Workers and manage the duty rota effectively.
