Job summary

St Helens MBC in St Helens is seeking a Senior Social Worker to join the Children in Need team. The role involves holding and effectively managing challenging cases in line with statutory requirements to improve outcomes for children and families.

You will liaise with multi-disciplinary teams, model best practice, supervise junior social workers, and contribute to safeguarding processes under the Children’s Act 1989, including preparing reports for court proceedings.

Qualifications

  • Experience in safeguarding and statutory duties for children and families.
  • Ability to liaise with multi-disciplinary teams and professionals.
  • Experience preparing court reports and managing risk in child protection cases.

Responsibilities

  • Hold and effectively manage challenging cases to improve outcomes for children and young people.
  • Assess and manage high-risk situations with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Coach and mentor student social workers.
  • Undertake duties under the Children’s Act 1989 and related legislation.
  • Investigate allegations of neglect or abuse and initiate child protection procedures.
  • Monitor and supervise children on Child Protection or CIN plans.
  • Prepare reports and legal documents for court proceedings and attend hearings.

Job description

Salary: GBP40 - GBP40 per hour

Our client St. Helens MBC is looking for a Senior Social Worker to join their Children in need team.

  • To hold and effectively manage challenging cases, providing an exemplary service in line with statutory requirements and departmental priorities, improving outcomes for children and young people.
  • To demonstrate effective practice in the most complex situations, assessing and managing higher levels of risk, striking a balance between support and control, liaising with a wide range of professionals within multi-disciplinary teams, including more senior levels.
  • To model best practice, setting expectations for others and to take responsibility for coaching and mentoring student social workers.
  • To undertake the range of duties and responsibilities on behalf of the Department as specified in the Children’s Act 1989 and such other legislation as is or may be appropriate to work with children and their families.
  • To investigation allegations of neglect, ill treatment or abuse of children and to make enquiries as to the need to provide services to such children, instigate Child Protection procedures or an application to a court for an appropriate order in respect of such children.
  • To monitor and supervise children placed on the Child Protection or Children in Need plans.
  • To provide the assessment and supervision of children looked after by St Helens Council in order that statutory duties towards such children are met.
  • To undertake the preparation of reports, statements and such other legal documents as may be required in relation to children and young persons in both criminal and family proceedings courts within the relevant timescales to attend court and represent the department.
