Job Advert: Senior Social Work Practitioner – Mental Health (Adults)

Location: Caerphilly

Employment Type: Temporary (12 Weeks)

Start Date: 09 February 2026

Hours: 37 hours per week (work pattern subject to service needs, including rota-based working)

Salary:

  • PAYE: £28.11 per hour
  • Umbrella: £37.09 per hour

Are you an experienced Senior Social Work Practitioner with a passion for adult mental health and recovery-focused practice? Network Recruitment Wales is seeking a skilled and motivated practitioner to join the South Community Mental Health Team within Adult Services for a 12-week temporary assignment.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary community mental health team, supporting adults with complex mental health needs while contributing to service development and supporting less experienced colleagues.

What You’ll Do:
  • Deliver high-quality Care and Treatment Planning for adults requiring community-based mental health services, promoting independence, dignity, and recovery.
  • Assess and manage risk, coordinating services to ensure the safety and wellbeing of service users and carers.
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, including health, housing, police, and third-sector partners.
  • Fulfil duties as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) in accordance with the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, including participation in the daytime AMHP rota.
  • Monitor, review, and evaluate care plans to ensure positive outcomes and service user satisfaction.
  • Maintain accurate, high-quality case records and prepare reports as required.
  • Support service development by identifying unmet needs and contributing to planning and commissioning processes.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and learning opportunities for AMHP and Social Work students.
What We’re Looking For:
  • A qualified Social Worker with a Diploma or Degree in Social Work and current registration with Social Care Wales (or equivalent UK body).
  • Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) status.
  • A minimum of 2 years post-qualifying experience in Adult Mental Health Social Work.
  • Strong knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983, Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014, and related legislation and guidance.
  • Proven experience in care and treatment planning, risk assessment, and mental health recovery-focused practice.
  • Excellent communication, assessment, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Confidence using ICT systems for case recording, reporting, and performance monitoring (e.g. SWIFT, health databases, Microsoft Office).
  • Flexibility to work across a rota, including weekends, and travel across the county borough.
  • Welsh language skills are desirable.
