About the role

This is a senior practitioner position within Powys County Council’s Emergency Duty Team (EDT), requiring dual qualification as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) and experience in Child Safeguarding. The postholder provides statutory emergency social work services out of hours to children and adults across Powys.

About you
  • Deliver emergency social work services outside normal office hours, including safeguarding investigations, Mental Health Act assessments and crisis interventions for children and adults.
  • Prioritise referrals based on risk and need, often making independent decisions without direct line management support.
  • Provide advice and support to residents and external agencies, and attend meetings or court hearings as required.
  • Maintain accurate records, uphold quality assurance, and liaise with other statutory and voluntary agencies.
  • Cover for colleagues at short notice and during bank holidays.
