Job summary

OCU is seeking a Senior SHEQ Advisor in Perth, Scotland, to lead safety, quality, and environmental initiatives across major infrastructure and utility projects. You will influence behaviours, drive improvements, and partner with operational teams to create safer working environments.

This role focuses on developing and maintaining management systems, delivering training, and supporting audits while promoting a strong safety culture across a growing business.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a SHEQ, Health & Safety, or HSE advisory role within construction, utilities, infrastructure, engineering, or a similar environment.
  • NEBOSH qualification or equivalent health and safety qualification.
  • Strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation, standards, and industry best practice.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain SHEQ policies, procedures, and management systems across the business.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and drive improvements.
  • Advise operational teams on SHEQ legislation, compliance requirements, and best practice.
  • Deliver training, briefings, and awareness programmes to support a positive safety culture.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Monitor SHEQ performance metrics and support continuous improvement initiatives across projects and operations.
  • Collaborate with managers, employees, subcontractors, and external stakeholders to promote safe and compliant working practices.
  • Support internal and external audits, ensuring documentation and records are maintained to the required standard.

What You’ll Do

What You’ll Bring
  • Essential
    • Previous experience in a SHEQ, Health & Safety, or HSE advisory role within construction, utilities, infrastructure, engineering, or a similar environment.
    • NEBOSH qualification or equivalent health and safety qualification.
    • Strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation, standards, and industry best practice.
    • Experience conducting risk assessments, audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
    • Full UK driving licence.
  • Desirable
    • Experience working within utilities, energy, infrastructure, or construction sectors.
    • Bonus if you hold Environmental or Quality‑related qualifications.
    • It would be great if you are a member of IOSH, IEMA, or another relevant professional body.
    • It would be great if you have experience supporting ISO management systems and compliance frameworks.
    • Knowledge of environmental management and quality assurance processes would be advantageous.
