The Role

As a Senior Service Manager, you’ll be at the heart of one of the UK’s most critical defence programmes: Skynet. You’ll lead a delivery team responsible for managing and operating military satellite communications systems and ground stations for the Ministry of Defence. This is a high‑impact role where your leadership will directly influence mission success, operational resilience, and national security.

You’ll define and oversee the full lifecycle of services within the Special Tasks domain, ensuring they meet operational and business needs while driving continuous improvement. This is a dynamic opportunity to grow your career in defence, aerospace and engineering—fields that demand innovation, integrity and purpose.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll be required to:

  • Drive continuous improvement based on customer feedback and satisfaction surveys.
  • Manage financial performance of the service portfolio with finance partners.
  • Facilitate communication between service delivery, support teams, and client representatives.
  • Lead a delivery team focused on delivering Skynet services in a Special Tasks environment.
  • Define long‑term strategy for the domain aligned with business goals.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days onsite for customer interaction and 3 days working from home.

Essential Experience of the Senior Service Manager
  • Familiarity with ITIL V3 or V4 (desirable).
  • Background in service management and lifecycle delivery.
  • Understanding of commercial or satellite communications (advantageous).
  • Service Delivery / Management experience.
  • Experience within a military contract environment.
  • Exposure to operational satellite communications (desirable).
Qualifications for the Senior Service Manager

We value difference and don’t have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and/or willingness to learn then we would like to hear from you. However, ITIL certification is preferred.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. However, the successful candidate will need to obtain Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance once in post.
