Job summary

Resolian is seeking a Senior Scientist to lead materials science projects in a GMP‑aligned environment at our Discovery Park facility in the United Kingdom. You will drive experimental strategies, mentor junior staff and present findings to clients and external partners.

The role combines hands‑on laboratory work with scientific leadership, external engagement, and the delivery of high‑quality data packages to support pre‑formulation and early formulation activities.

Qualifications

• Degree in Materials Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry or related field.
• Strong experience in solid-state and physical characterization in pharmaceutical settings.
• Hands-on solid-form screening and crystallization.
• Method development, troubleshooting, and project leadership.
• Excellent communication skills, including presenting to external audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead diverse materials science projects with hands-on experimental work.
• Design, execute and troubleshoot experiments across solid-state and pre-formulation studies.
• Develop and validate analytical methods, incl. GMP environments.
• Translate results into actionable recommendations for clients and partners.
• Manage work packages, timelines and delivery of data packages.
• Mentor junior scientists and introduce new lab techniques.
• Support development of pre-formulation workflows and continuous improvement.

Description

We are seeking a highly driven, results-oriented Senior Scientist to help advance our growing Materials Science services. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in the laboratory, enjoys hands‑on experimental work, and is equally confident driving scientific strategy and representing the team externally.

You will independently lead multi‑faced materials science projects, deliver high‑quality scientific outputs for clients and act as a visible ambassador for our capabilities at client meetings and scientific events. The role combines deep experimental expertise with leadership, innovation, and external engagement.

What will you be doing?

• Perform and lead a variety of projects and related hands‑on experimental work using a range of instrumentation including PXRD, thermal analysis, SEM, sorption techniques, laser diffraction, microscopy, gas adsorption, and iGC
• Independently design, execute and troubleshoot experiments related to solid‑state, physical properties and pre‑formulation studies
• Develop and validate analytical methods, including for GMP environments
• Translate experimental findings into clear scientific recommendations for clients and external partners
• Lead scientific work packages, managing timelines and ensuring delivery of high‑quality data packages
• Balance multiple experimental projects while maintaining scientific rigor and operational efficiency
• Introduce new lab techniques, instrumentation, and best practices to strengthen team capability
• Mentor junior scientists in hands‑on laboratory methods and scientific problem‑solving
• Support the establishment of pre‑formulation and early formulation experimental workflows
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across laboratory operations
• Present scientific work at conferences, client meetings, and workshopsSupport business development by showcasing the team’s Materials Science and Characterisation capabilities both internally and externally

Requirements

Who we’re looking for

This role is a key contributor in building strong, trust based relationships with our clients, acting as a technical expert. We are also ideally looking for someone with experience in pre‑formulation or early formulation activities, as well as experience of working in regulated/ GMP‑aligned environments.

You’ll also have:

• A degree (MSc/PhD preferred) in Materials Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or related discipline
• Strong experience in solid‑state and physical characterisation in a pharmaceutical setting
• Hands‑on experience of solid form screening and crystallization
• Hands‑on method development, troubleshooting, and project leadership
• Excellent communication skills, including presenting to external audience
• Proven ability to deliver results independently in a fast‑paced environment

It would be an advantage if you have knowledge of complementary analytical techniques such as spectroscopy and familiarity with regulatory expectations for solid‑state and physical properties data.
