Job summary

Leica Biosystems, located in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK, seeks a Senior Scientist to lead defined R&D projects advancing cancer diagnostic products. The role involves planning, executing, and interpreting laboratory studies across histology, IHC, and molecular biology, with cross-functional collaboration in a regulated setting.

You will mentor scientists, deliver within time and budget, and contribute to lifecycle management of diagnostics, reporting to an R&D Manager. On-site work in Newcastle.

Qualifications

• PhD in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent experience.
• Experience in immunohistochemistry, histopathology, chemistry or molecular biology.
• Experience in regulated environments with regulatory requirements for diagnostics or medical devices.
• Experience developing products from concept through feasibility and project initiation.

Responsibilities

• Lead defined R&D projects or work packages for diagnostic products.
• Plan, execute, and interpret laboratory studies.
• Provide technical guidance to scientists and mentor team members.
• Contribute to product development from concept to transfer, ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality requirements.
