Job summary

Blenheim Schools is seeking a Senior Science Technician at Akeley Wood School, near Buckingham. You will prepare, set up and maintain equipment for Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and ensure health and safety standards across the department.

With a focus on accurate inventory management and support for teaching staff, you will contribute to smooth practical lessons and safe laboratory operations. The role is 20 hours per week, permanent term-time only, starting January 2027.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Science Technician or in a lab/educational setting.
• Strong knowledge of lab procedures and health and safety regulations.
• Highly organised with ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Excellent record-keeping and attention to detail.
• Capable of working independently while supporting staff.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, set up and clear away equipment and materials for practical science lessons and demonstrations.
• Maintain, organise and carry out safety checks on laboratory equipment and resources across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
• Manage chemical storage, stock levels and departmental inventory, ensuring safe handling and compliance with regulations.
• Support teachers with practical activities, classroom resources and technical assistance during lessons.
• Assist with risk assessments, COSHH records and health and safety compliance, following current CLEAPSS and ASE guidance.
• Check deliveries, manage supplies and help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the Science Department.
