Job summary

SII UK is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to support the development of spaceborne SAR instrumentation programmes. You will help define, design, and verify SAR instruments, contribute to feasibility studies, bid activities and future mission developments.

Within multidisciplinary teams you will drive system-level design decisions, maintain interfaces, develop calibration strategies and performance models, manage requirements and risk, and ensure technical coherence across

Qualifications

• Experience with SAR instruments and mission-level needs.
• Proven ability to design and verify SAR architectures.
• Strong modelling and analysis of SAR performance.
• Experience calibrating and characterising SAR systems.
• Foundations in radar theory and signal processing.
• Expertise in requirements management, verification and validation.
• Knowledge of RF transmit/receive chains.
• Ability to manage budgets and develop performance models.
• Strong stakeholder management and technical leadership.
• Experience in multidisciplinary engineering environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical requirement analysis for SAR instrument and mission-level needs.
• Derive and flow down system and subsystem requirements.
• Define and maintain SAR instrument architectures, balancing performance, risk and cost considerations.
• Coordinate technical activities across multidisciplinary teams including:
• Define and consolidate instrument-to-platform interfaces.
• Develop SAR instrument operational concepts aligned with mission and satellite operations.
• Define instrument calibration and characterisation strategies, including internal and external calibration approaches.
• Establish instrument development, verification and validation strategies.
• Identify technical risks and develop mitigation plans.
• Generate, analyse and maintain transmit and receive RF budgets.
• Develop, maintain and assess SAR performance models across multiple instrument operating modes.
