Job summary

Zuno Tech Group is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (Ruby) in London. You will design and scale server-side logic, partner with Product to shape roadmap, and own complex backend features. You’ll collaborate with the Next.js frontend and mentor junior engineers while improving code quality and performance.

You’ll focus on robust APIs, database design, and performance, with a strong emphasis on TDD, continuous delivery, and engineering excellence in a hybrid work setup.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend experience.
• Strong expertise in Ruby on Rails and metaprogramming.
• Designing complex, normalised PostgreSQL schemas and writing performant SQL (PostgreSQL).
• Experience designing and maintaining versioned RESTful APIs with Ruby on Rails.
• Proficiency with RSpec for automated tests and strong Agile experience.
• Collaborative with frontend teams and Product Managers to shape roadmap.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable backend features with Ruby on Rails.
• Architect and document performant RESTful APIs for React/Next.js frontend teams.
• Lead technical discussions on system design and database schema planning.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, optimise SQL queries, caching (Redis), and background jobs (Sidekiq).
• Write clean, tested code following TDD and CD practices.
• Take ownership of complex backend features from concept to deployment and manage technical debt.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive engineering standards and best practices.
• Ensure system reliability, high availability, and data integrity in production.
