You will be based in the Royal Liverpool Hospital and will be responsible for supporting the Physiotherapy Service through nine‑month rotations across the surgical wards, critical care, respiratory medicine and cardiology areas, including a respiratory support unit (providing non‑invasive ventilation and tracheostomy care) and a respiratory outpatient clinic.

You should have a strong clinical background and knowledge and skills acquired across a variety of settings. You will be part of a high‑functioning multidisciplinary team, providing specialist clinical contribution to the patient journey with high‑level assessment and treatment planning for complex patients. Excellent organisational, planning and time‑management skills are required. You will need to be on‑call competent and comfortable operating in a challenging, acute, fast‑paced environment.

Strong leadership and people‑management skills, including supervision, are mandatory. You will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to service development, audit and research.

  • Provide clinical assessment and treatment for complex patients with respiratory and rehabilitation need.
  • Design and deliver training and development of junior members of staff to develop clinical skills, including on‑call competency; the successful candidate will play a lead role in this area.
  • Support a busy team of Physios, OTs, TAs and APs alongside team leaders.
  • Organise and contribute to in‑service training programmes for staff and students, and the wider MDT.
  • Support data collection and performance monitoring of the clinical areas and use this data to identify areas of the service needing development.
  • Provide supervision, support and appraisal to bands 5‑3.
  • Provide supervision and support to undergraduate students from HEI’s in the Northwest.
Clinical Responsibilities
  1. Undertake physiotherapy assessment, clinically diagnose and implement agreed treatment plans, evaluate care delivery according to healthcare needs for routine and complex patients.
  2. Advise, assist and educate staff grade and student Physiotherapists in the management of routine patients.
  3. Ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all other Health & Social Care Professionals regarding all aspects of patient care, including patients who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating.
  4. Participate in departmental planned out‑of‑hours working and emergency on‑call rota.
  5. Represent the Physiotherapy Service at multidisciplinary meetings to ensure the delivery of a coordinated Multidisciplinary Service.
  6. Attend relevant ward rounds and clinics, working alongside the multidisciplinary team, assessing, advising and treating patients as required.

The successful candidate must be able to work flexibly to meet service demands over a seven‑day service, and there is a clinical expectation to participate in the on‑call rota as required. Part‑time applications will be considered. Offers of employment may be made for a Band 6 training post under Annex 21 AFC terms and conditions.
