Job description

Mott MacDonald have ambitious plans to grow our road safety services in the UK and internationally. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Principal Road Safety Consultant to support our growth and develop our team. This role can be based out of any one of our UK offices. This is an exciting senior role with the opportunity to develop and grow in our Road Safety Team and contribute to achieving a high performing shared enterprise with our partners. Your focus will be on delivering great work, supporting a high-performing team and helping to mentor the next generation of road safety consultants. You will be leading on a wide range of activities from road safety auditing, operational safety, delivery of iRAP projects and helping to grow our advisory offering around safety guidance, policy and research to our clients. Some of our most recent and ongoing projects include Lower Thames Crossing (Kent Roads), provision of road safety auditing to National Highways East Region and iRAP studies for NMWTRA in Wales and Transport for Greater Manchester.

Responsibilities
  • Act as Project Technical Lead or Road Safety Discipline Lead on appropriate medium to large scale projects.
  • Act as a senior technical leader for our road safety discipline.
  • Develop and mentor junior staff in the team, building a robust technical group and giving people clear pathways for their development.
  • Engage proactively with the Mott MacDonald Highways Practice globally as a subject matter expert.
  • Manage road safety delivery on your projects. This may include the road safety component of a large project like Lower Thames Crossing, or project managing a road safety project such as an iRAP study or SPaTS3 task.
Business Development
  • Provide technical and subject matter input to bids and opportunities to win new work.
  • Support efforts to secure specialist road safety work (e.g. advisory work on the SPaTS3 Framework).
  • Support the WIN team with client engagement on road safety subject matter.
  • Build your internal Mott MacDonald network globally.
  • Grow your external network and opportunities to promote your expertise and Mott MacDonald capability at external events and conferences.
Essential
  • Honours degree or greater in a relevant engineering, transport planning or safety related subject.
  • Demonstrable experience in the road safety sector.
  • Demonstrable experience in road safety auditing and operational safety.
  • Experience in client-facing roles, providing technical advice and guidance.
Desirable
  • Professional accreditation, such as Chartered status.
  • Experience overseeing and growing technical teams.
  • Experience managing project deliveries.

The Business Unit

We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it.
