Job summary

Turner & Townsend is seeking an experienced Senior Risk Manager / Risk Lead for a major nuclear programme in the North West. The role requires on-site presence in West Burton three days per week and involves leading risk processes, workshops, and QA of risk data.

You will use Safran, @risk, PRA, Power BI, and collaborate across project controls and supply chain; professional risk qualifications are desirable. This is an opportunity to shape risk management for critical infrastructure.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design and implement risk management processes tailored to the client’s needs.
  • Facilitate risk workshops with subject matter experts.
  • Create and maintain risk registers and risk information.
  • Challenge risk data to improve data quality and robustness.
  • Drive mitigation actions across projects and programmes.
  • Support development of management responses and post-mitigation positions.
  • Conduct Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) for cost and schedule.
  • Produce timely risk reporting using PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Power BI.
  • Collaborate with Project Controls and supply chain to align risks.

Due to increased demand across the Energy & Natural Resources sector, our North West team is expanding and looking to appoint experienced Risk Managers / Risk Leads to support a major nuclear programme.

This is an opportunity to join a high-profile, complex infrastructure programme at the forefront of industry transformation, working within a collaborative and growing delivery environment. We are keen to engage with individuals who bring strong project/programme risk expertise, particularly within regulated or capital-intensive industries. Candidates will be required to be on‑site 3 days per week in West Burton.

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE:

The Senior Risk Manager / Risk Lead will be responsible for the identification, assessment, and management of risks and assumptions across projects and programmes of varying scale and complexity. The role combines hands‑on delivery of risk management activities with a broader remit to support risk process improvement, stakeholder engagement, and integrated project controls. You will play a key role in ensuring risks are effectively understood, managed, and communicated to support successful delivery to time, cost, and quality objectives.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

As a Senior Risk Manager, you have a passion to provide services as required by our clients, which may include:

  • Planning, designing and implementing risk management processes tailoring to the client’s needs and aligning with best practice.
  • Facilitation of risk workshops with subject matter experts.
  • Creation and maintenance of risk registers and other risk information.
  • Challenging risk information to enhance the quality of risk data so that it is robust.
  • Drive the implementation of mitigation actions against associated risks across projects and programmes.
  • Assist the project team with the identification and development of management responses which are measurable and specific, that support the post mitigated positions.
  • Conduct Quantitative Risk Assessment and analysis (QRA) for cost and schedule impacts to support the understanding of the project’s remaining risk exposure.
  • Demonstrate basic to practitioner competency with tools such as Safran, @risk, PRA or similar.
  • The production of timely and efficient risk reporting using tools such as Microsoft (PowerPoint, Word and excel) and Power BI. Familiarity with web-based database/reporting tools – ARM, Xactium, Predict, Tableau.
  • Collaborating with other Project Controls disciplines to maintain alignment of project information.
  • Working with the supply chain to understand and incorporate the risks they present to clients.
Qualifications

You have professional Risk Management experience in one or more sectors across the whole Project lifecycle. While nuclear experience is desirable it is not an absolute requirement. You have the ability to adjust risk strategies and process in response to change and have excellent communication skills to convey complex risk information to all stakeholders. You are conversant with risk management systems such as Safran, @risk, PRA. Strategic awareness and critical thinking are key, with the ability to confidently assess the implications of various risk scenarios.

You also:

  • Will be able to obtain BPSS level security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field desirable or demonstrable experience.
  • Are a member of a relevant professional body e.g., Institute of Risk Management (IRM), Association for Project Management
  • Familiarity with at least one risk standard or approach (ISO31000, APM, Orange Book, IPA)
  • A risk qualification such as APM Risk Certificate Level 2 or Management of Risk (MoR) is desirable
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have good research and analytical skills.
  • Have stakeholder management experience.
  • Have experience of working within a Project Controls team.
  • Have a desire to work within the nuclear sector.
