Description
Lead on the key quantitative elements of the Risk Management Framework, ensuring strong risk management across multiple syndicates and clients.
Provide management, guidance and development to two Analysts dedicated to Risk Analytics and develop the quantitative risk skillset of junior team members across the wider Risk Team.
Provide a direct link to the Asta Actuarial & Exposure Management Teams and other key stakeholders to support Risk Management and facilitate aspects of Internal Model governance.
Key Responsibilities
Syndicate Risk Management Processes
- Risk management framework: Lead the development and maintenance of quantitative elements of the framework liaising with the CRO, Head of Risk and Portfolio Leads. Ensure that all quantitative risk management practices meet Principles for Doing Business at Lloyd’s and Solvency UK requirements.
- Risk & Risk Appetite: Lead the quarterly monitoring of Actuarial and Exposure Management related Risks and Risk Appetites. Support the development of quantitative Risk Appetites to ensure they respond to changing client risk profiles or regulatory requirements.
- SBF Risk Assessments: Take a key role in the Risk Team’s review of all Syndicate SBFs, providing quantitative challenge on business plans.
- ORSA: Take a key role in the preparation of Syndicate ORSA documentation, including the preparation of Stress & Scenario and Reverse Testing, supporting on insurance risk and capital related sections of the ORSAs. Review Forward Looking Assessment Capital projections.
- Sensitivity testing: Support the wider team on sensitivity testing.
- Lead / undertake other tasks in regard to the Risk Framework for Asta and Clients as directed by the CRO.
Validation
- Own and project manage the SCR Validation processes, including those required for Internal Model Approval Processes, Major Model Change submissions and summer LCR submissions.
- Lead the liaison with the internal Actuaries & external Validators. Review the Validation test suite and aspects of Validation performed by the Actuarial department and external Validators. Work with Exposure Management on Validation requirements for external models.
- Liaise with Lloyd’s directly in regard to Validation to ensure regulatory requirements and deadlines are met.
- Oversee Operational Risk Validation.
- Report progress to the Internal Model Technical Group (IMTG) and Internal Model Steering Committee (IMSC) and through the Asta Committee / Board governance structure as required.
- Manage the production of all syndicate executive summary Validation Reports and support the CRO in making their SMF Attestation in regard to SCRs.
- Manage the closure of Validation Actions in conjunction with the Actuarial Team. Put remediation plans into place in regard to any findings or actions identified for action by the Risk Team.
- Undertake additional Validation related tasks as required by the CRO.
Internal Model & Lloyd’s Standard Model
- Oversee governance of all Internal Models including the ownership of Internal Model policies and the Internal Model Change process.
- Ensure IMSC & IMTG meetings run as required to undertake duties delegated by the AMA Board. Including: Charing meetings as directed by the CRO; Liaising with the stakeholders to set IMSC and IMTG agendas; Ensuring an accurate record of IMSC and IMTG minutes and actions are produced.
- Collaborate with the AMA Head of Capital, Central Capital team and (Senior) Syndicate Actuaries.
- Oversee governance aspects of Lloyd’s Standard Model SCRs and support in the development of Partial Internal Model SCR governance.
- Prepare high quality, succinct reports on IMTG activities to the IMSC and on Internal Model governance and validation activities to the AMA Risk Committee and AMA Board.
- Undertake any other IM governance duties as directed by the CRO.
Stress & Scenario Testing
- Take an active role in maintaining the Asta Framework for Stress & Scenario and Reverse Stress Testing, including development of standardised processes and a test library, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and best practice.
- Centralised coordination of Stress & Scenario and Reverse Stress Testing in the Risk team, supporting the team in collaboration with the syndicates on testing
- Ensure Actuarial stress testing within Validation is suitable for use in ORSAs.
Relationship Management
- Provide support and training to the wider Risk Team as required to assist in their understanding of quantitative risk processes.
- Maintain strong working relationships with Actuarial and Exposure Management Team colleagues alongside other relevant Teams at Asta, to support collaborative working on quantitative risk elements of client oversight, internal projects and risk management processes.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal, numerical and written skills that enable the job holder to build trust with senior members of Asta. Confidence and willingness to challenge management. Expresses ideas effectively and listens actively.
- Analytical: Possesses the ability to understand and solve problems involving data and processes. Extensive experience of working within an Actuarial Team and/or a qualified Actuary, in particular in relation to capital modelling. High level of technical accuracy and attention to detail.
- Management: Excellent leadership skills and proven management experience.
- Flexibility: Readily adapts to changing priorities and has the ability to work simultaneously on a variety of projects, both unsupervised and through collaboration with the wider team.
- Initiative: Self-starter with ability to define reporting and actions in relation to complex issues. The ability to contribute to on-going development / improvements through original thinking, persuasive argument, and a considered approach.
- Strong understanding of the insurance market and risk with understanding of the activities of a Lloyd’s syndicate.
