Job summary

HENSOLDT UK in Enfield is seeking a Senior RF Engineer to lead RF/microwave module development, antenna design, modelling and testing. You will drive small work packages, derive requirements, and provide RF expertise across the business.

The role requires strong microwave PCB design, RF component selection, system design, and familiarity with RF test equipment; production environment experience; and excellent English communication.

Qualifications

• Proficient in PCB design at microwave frequencies and able to manipulate schematics.
• Experience deriving and verifying RF system requirements and cascaded analyses.
• Familiar with RF test equipment (Spectrum Analyzers, VNAs).
• Antenna design and test, including array, slotted, and printed antennas.

Responsibilities

• Lead antenna and RF equipment development, internally or via suppliers.
• Maintain RF/antenna designs for improvements and obsolescence.
• Oversee requirements derivation and verification/validation.
• Provide RF design support to Supply Chain, Quality, Suppliers and Customers.
• Support external designs and maintain production tests for antenna/RF.
• Assist RF module manufacture with issue analysis and trend/root-cause analysis.
• Ensure procedures are followed and quality is maintained in design and manufacture.
• Generate estimates and plan small work packages; maintain documentation.

Job description

The Senior RF Engineer is responsible for significant work packages of RF/Microwave module development, test, and support as well as antenna design, modelling, and requirements. They support other areas of the business with RF/antenna design expertise.

Job Functions

• Proactively lead antenna and RF equipment development, via internal or sub-contracted work packages.
• Maintain antenna and RF designs – e.g., for product Improvements and obsolescence.management
• Oversee derivation of requirements and specifications and their verification & validation
• Provide technical support to Supply Chain, Quality, Suppliers and Customers.
• Support external antenna and RF designs and maintain antenna/RF Production Tests.
• Support RF module manufacture – responding to technical issues, undertaking trend analysis and root cause analysis.
• Ensure that Engineering Procedures are correctly followed, and the quality is maintained through design and manufacture.
• Generate estimates, plan and generally manage small work packages.
• Ensure adequate documentation is maintained.
• Any other tasks associated with this role.

Requirements Essential

• PCB Design at microwave frequencies - comfortable with manipulating schematics and defining/reviewing required layout.
• RF Component selection; knowledge of High Power RF amplifier, Low Noise Amplifiers, Limiters, Circulators, Filters, Mixers and Phase Locked Loop usage.
• RF System Design (e.g. Cascade Analysis).
• Familiarity with RF test equipment (e.g. Spectrum Analysers, Vector Network Analysers).
• Antenna theory and design and test including array antennas, including slotted array and printed antennas
• Design for test and design for manufacture.
• Experience of a Production Environment (e.g. good understanding of processes such as SMT).
• Self-motivated and enjoys working within a team.
• Good command of written and verbal English.

Requirements Desirable

• Familiar with Altium PCB Design Software.
• Familiar with Altair RF and antenna design software
• Working knowledge of radar or closely related applications (e.g., Comms).
• Experience of any of the following:
• Knowledge of digital electronics or power supply design.
• Experience of requirements management and/or systems engineering disciplines.
• Test Automation (e.g. through MATLAB or Python).
• EMC.
• Regulatory compliance (e.g. FCC, ITU or ETSI requirements).
