Job summary

Shaw Trust, via Homes2Inspire, seeks a Senior Residential Support Worker in Bicester, Oxfordshire, to provide leadership and trauma-informed care in children’s homes. You will guide shifts, develop staff, and ensure high standards of safeguarding and care.

You’ll work hands-on with young people, promoting consistency, wellbeing, and safeguarding while leading a team to deliver trauma-informed, relationship-based support.

Qualifications

• A strong understanding of the needs of children and young people who have experienced trauma.
• Minimum of one year's experience working with children and young people.
• Level 3 qualification in Residential Childcare, Health & Social Care, Children & Young People's Workforce, Childhood & Youth Studies, or Ofsted-recognised equivalent.
• Experience supporting young people who display behaviours that challenge.
• Confidence leading shifts and supporting colleagues.
• Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
• Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Flexibility to work a rota including evenings, weekends, sleep-ins and bank holidays.
• A full UK driving licence (essential).

Responsibilities

• Acting as a shift leader, supporting and guiding Residential Support Workers.
• Leading by example and promoting trauma-informed, relationship-based care.
• Supporting the emotional wellbeing, safety, and development of young people.
• Managing and responding to challenging behaviours appropriately and confidently.
• Ensuring safeguarding remains at the centre of all decision-making.
• Promoting structure, consistency, boundaries, and positive routines.
• Supporting care planning, risk management, and outcome-focused interventions.
• Completing records, reports, and safeguarding documentation to a high standard.
• Building effective relationships with families, schools, social workers, and external professionals.
• Supporting the development and mentoring of less experienced colleagues.
