Job summary

Lancaster University is seeking a Senior Research Associate to lead field experiments and mechanistic modelling in AI-enabled conservation within the BEACON programme. The role requires fieldwork on coral reefs and UK coastal waters, and collaboration across disciplines.

The successful candidate will co-lead ecological research with the PI and team, plan field campaigns, and help develop integrated AI methods with researchers from DSAIL and partners, including international collaborators.

Qualifications

• PhD in behavioural ecology, marine biology or related discipline.
• Strong grounding in animal behaviour.
• Marine field skills including fieldwork in remote locations and SCUBA diving qualifications.
• Enthusiasm for developing practical AI skills and interdisciplinary work.

Responsibilities

• Co-lead ecological research within BEACON on AI-enabled conservation.
• Design field experiments and analyses linking disturbance, behaviour, and ecosystem function.
• Lead mechanistic modelling of reef fish behaviour.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and external partners.
