Manchester Metropolitan University is seeking a Senior Research Assistant to support a growing neuroscience programme focused on Parkinson's disease and deep brain stimulation (DBS). The role involves coordinating day-to-day project delivery, arranging participant visits, and maintaining ethics and governance documents.
You will work with NHS clinical teams and participants, contributing to data processing, analysis and dissemination of findings, with training offered in specialized procedures.
We are looking for a Senior Research Assistant to support a growing programme of human neuroscience research, with a particular focus on Parkinson's disease and deep brain stimulation (DBS).
This is a varied role for someone with good neuroscience research skills who also enjoys making studies run well. You will help coordinate the day-to-day delivery of several projects, working closely with researchers, NHS clinical teams and people taking part in our studies.
Your work will include arranging participant visits and follow-up, preparing and maintaining ethics and research governance documents, keeping study records up to date, and entering and checking research data. You will also support participant-facing assessments and contribute to data processing, analysis and the communication of findings.
Our research brings together clinical measures, digital and wearable technologies, neuroimaging and electrophysiology, including EEG and recordings from implanted DBS devices. You will have opportunities to develop your skills across these methods, with training provided for specialist procedures.
We are looking for someone who can organise competing tasks across projects, work carefully with confidential data and communicate warmly and clearly with participants and colleagues. You will have a postgraduate qualification in neuroscience, psychology or a related field, or equivalent relevant research experience. Experience of coordinating human research, managing study documentation, supporting ethics applications or working with clinical research data would be particularly valuable. Prior experience with DBS or every method used in the programme is not required.
You will join a multidisciplinary team at Manchester Metropolitan University and work with our NHS and academic collaborators on research aimed at improving our understanding and treatment of Parkinson's disease.
