Job summary

Chaucer, a leading specialty insurance group, is seeking a qualified Accountant to join the Finance department in London. You will be responsible for Syndicate reporting to Lloyd's, including regulatory returns and annual statements, and for producing analytics to support management information.

You will also support audits, contribute to robust controls, and mentor junior staff while delivering timely, accurate reporting across the syndicate.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Accountant with Lloyd's accounting and reporting experience.
  • Knowledge of UK GAAP and Solvency UK is required.
  • Advanced Excel and reporting skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Produce Syndicate reporting to Lloyd's, including Flash report, Solvency UK and related schedules.
  • Prepare analytics and commentary to support regular or ad hoc queries.
  • Support the audit process by liaising with auditors and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Contribute to internal control improvements and documentation of procedures.

Job description

Working within the Finance department of Chaucer, a leading specialty insurance group with Lloyd's and Company market operations, headquartered in London with international hubs for Europe, Latin America and Asia. Chaucer benefits from the ownership of China Re, a Hong Kong listed entity, and one of the top 10 reinsurance companies in the world.

The role will be responsible for the preparation of internal and external reports of the department, including all Lloyd's regulatory returns, associated management information and other project work. The candidate will also prepare analytical reports to support the information produced as well as providing support to more junior team members.

Job Description
  • Responsible for the production of Syndicate reporting to Lloyd's, comprising:
    • Flash report, Solvency UK, US and Canadian situs, RRQ/RRA, QMB, Schedule 3, NAIC.
    • Annual and underwriting year financial statements.
    • Production of analytics and commentary to support regular or ad hoc queries on, or related to, syndicate reporting.
    • The responsibility includes all necessary liaison with parties involved in the process, in particular within the Finance area, to ensure the end result is delivered in the timeframe and standard required.
    • Ensuring reports are produced in accordance with relevant timetables, and allowing appropriate time for management review
  • Production of analytical memos supporting each one of the reports produced
  • Support the audit process; liaising with auditors and ensuring that all the information required is produced and the audits are completed on time.
  • Contributing to a robust control environment:
    • Maintaining a sound system of internal controls
    • Responsible for the documentation of procedures affecting the areas under supervision
  • Project work as required, and cultivating an environment of continuous improvement:
    • Collaboration in the development of process and reporting improvements for increased accuracy, efficiency and timeliness.
    • Active participation on finance transformation project and other relevant projects.
  • Assisting the Head of Syndicate Reporting in oversight and management of the Reporting function:
    • Providing support and guidance to junior team members
    • Enhanced involvement in planning and coordination of deliverables.

Education & knowledge
  • Qualified Accountant (CA, ACCA or CIMA)
  • Working knowledge of Lloyd's accounting and reporting rules, UK GAAP, Solvency UK, Companies Act
  • Advanced excel
  • Advanced report writing skills
  • Knowledge of Lloyd's software (desirable)
