Senior Rent Accounting Officer

Directorate: Housing Management and Tenant Participation
Division: Finance – Rent Accounting Team
Grade: 7
Hours & Working Pattern: 18.5 hours (Wed pm ,Thurs & Fri).

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Rent Accounting Officer to join our Housing & Community Directorate. This is a key role within the Rent Accounting Team, responsible for managing and maintaining the integrity of rent accounting and income management systems, with a particular focus on Direct Debit services.

You will play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate processing of Direct Debit files, system development, quality reviews, and operational improvements. The position also involves supervising team members, providing training, and contributing to policy development and system enhancements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct Debit Management: Process daily Direct Debit files, reconcile payments, and liaise with IT and Business Systems teams to resolve issues.
  • System Integrity: Maintain and develop rent accounting systems, undertake complex amendments, and produce statistical reports for monitoring and reconciliation.
  • Team Support: Provide guidance and training to Rent Accounting Officers, authorise transactions, and oversee quality reviews.
  • Operational Development: Contribute to system design and implementation, participate in working groups, and coordinate marketing initiatives for Direct Debit services.
  • Financial Administration: Calculate and process tenancy‑related charges, liaise with Housing Benefits, and manage property‑related adjustments.
About You
  • Experience in financial administration or accountancy, including Direct Debit processing and auditing financial processes.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to interpret statistical information and produce reports.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A flexible, conscientious, and self‑disciplined approach.
Qualifications

Good standard of education (GCSE/O Level or equivalent, including Mathematics at grade C or above).

  • Prepared to study for NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration or AAT (Foundation) or equivalent.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
  • DBS clearance may be required depending on duties.
