Job summary

White Recruitment Construction in Glasgow is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead the design of refrigeration and chilled water systems through concept and commissioning.

The role requires a strong thermodynamics background, expertise in chillers and complex cooling systems, and knowledge of UKCA regulatory standards. Chartered status or progress toward chartership is advantageous, with clear opportunities for technical leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Refrigeration Engineering, or related field.
• Strong background in refrigeration systems and chilled water plant design.
• Experience designing chillers or complex cooling systems.
• Knowledge of UKCA, regulatory and engineering compliance.
• Chartered Engineer status or progress toward chartership advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of refrigeration and chilled water systems from concept to commissioning.
• Act as technical authority for thermodynamic design, component selection, system integration, and performance optimisation.
• Produce and review calculations, P&IDs, specifications, documentation, and design reports.
• Provide engineering governance across the full project lifecycle and commissioning.
• Support sales with technical input for bids, proposals, and customer discussions.
• Collaborate with customers, suppliers, manufacturing, testing and commissioning teams to ensure project delivery.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers in refrigeration discipline.
