IonQ’s Principal Software Architect will lead the evolution of architecture for a quantum computer software stack, spanning low-level hardware control to developer interfaces. You will shape the next generation of system software, guiding architectural strategy and collaborating with UK/US teams to deliver a scalable, world-leading quantum platform.

• Experience designing large-scale software architectures for real-time and distributed systems.
• Background in real-time software development and system-level thinking.
• Proven ability to guide architecture decisions and communicate tech concepts.

Responsibilities

• Develop the software architecture covering real-time and non-real-time hardware management.
• Collaborate with technical leads across development teams to deliver scalable solutions.
• Coach and train technical leads on architectural principles across UK and US teams.
• Coordinate with infrastructure, firmware and compiler teams to align with architectural goals.
