Job summary

Urenco is seeking a Senior Radiological Assessor at Capenhurst. You will lead safety assessments, act as Design Authority Intelligent Customer for external delivery, and maintain safety procedures and the Safety Case lifecycle. You will provide safety case support to Capenhurst and continuously develop professionally.

You will need a STEM degree and extensive Nuclear Safety experience, with strong analytical and emergency response capabilities to uphold UK regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics is required.
• Experience as Radiological/Chemotoxic Safety Assessor or Nuclear Safety Assessor is required.
• Knowledge of uranium hexafluoride hazards is beneficial.
• Competent Safety Assessor and Peer Reviewer.
• Understanding of how disciplines input to a Nuclear Safety Case.
• Thorough understanding of UK Regulatory Framework and regulator expectations.
• Experience across all stages of the Safety Case lifecycle and with other Licensees.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills.
• Ability to stay calm and professional during emergencies.

We're looking for a Senior Radiological Assessor. Based at our Capenhurst site, you'll act as a Technical Authority and Intelligent Customer for Radiological & Chemotoxic Safety Assessments. The Senior Radiological Assessor is accountable for leading delivery of safety assessments to cost, time and quality, determining appropriate assessment methodologies to apply, and structuring assessments to ensure they are fit for purpose and manageable throughout their life. They are to undertake peer reviews of assessments produced by others, including the supply chain, and provide expert advice to the Capenhurst site on the detailed content of safety cases on site.

What do you need to thrive in this role?

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics
• Previous experience directly relevant experience as a Radiological/ Chemotoxic Safety Assessor or Nuclear Safety Assessor.
• Knowledge of uranium hexafluoride hazards is beneficial to the role
• Competent Safety Assessor and Peer Reviewer.
• Possesses a detailed knowledge and understanding of how specialist disciplines input and support the development of a Nuclear Safety Case.
• Thorough understanding of the UK Regulatory Framework and Regulator expectations in respect of safety assessments.
• Has experience of each stage of the Safety Case lifecycle and experience of Safety Cases from other Licensees.
• Strong analytical thinking/problem solving skills
• Ability to remain calm and professional during an emergency situation.

Security vetting

Due to the nature of the industry that Urenco operates in, all personnel regardless of employment status working for Urenco are required to obtain security clearance at the level required for their role. Security clearances are assessed in accordance with regulations and official guidance issued by the relevant competent authorities for national security vetting. In certain circumstances, additional enhanced security clearance considerations apply to roles within Urenco owing to the particular activities that the Urenco Group undertakes in relation to uranium enrichment.
