Job summary

Astute People is seeking a Senior Radiological Assessor for their Capenhurst-based nuclear team. You will act as Technical Authority and Intelligent Customer for radiological safety assessments in a highly regulated nuclear environment.

Lead safety assessments, review content, advise on methodologies and peer-review work. We welcome candidates with STEM degrees and experience across Safety Case lifecycles, with UF6 knowledge considered advantageous.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in a STEM discipline.
• Experience as Radiological, Chemotoxic or Nuclear Safety Assessor.
• Competent Safety Assessor and Peer Reviewer.
• Knowledge of UK regulatory framework for safety assessments.
• Experience across Safety Case lifecycle stages.
• UF6 hazards knowledge would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of Safety Assessments to agreed cost, time and quality requirements.
• Act as Design Authority and Intelligent Customer for externally delivered Safety Assessments.
• Determine appropriate assessment methodologies and ensure assessments are fit for purpose.
• Undertake peer reviews of Safety Assessments produced internally and by the supply chain.
• Provide expert technical advice on the Safety Case content.
• Maintain and support Safety Case assessment and management procedures.
• Provide Safety Case input to the site and technical safety advice during emergencies.
• Maintain CPD and contribute to continuous process improvements.

Job description

Astute's Nuclear team is working with a leading organisation in the nuclear sector to recruit a Senior Radiological Assessor to join their growing team, based in Capenhurst.

The Senior Radiological Assessor will act as a Technical Authority and Intelligent Customer for Radiological and Chemotoxic Safety Assessments, taking a lead role in the delivery, review and assurance of safety assessments within a highly regulated nuclear environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Radiological, Chemotoxic or Nuclear Safety Assessor looking to take on a senior technical position with significant responsibility across safety case delivery and assurance.

Responsibilities and duties of the Senior Radiological Assessor role

As Senior Radiological Assessor, you will:

• Lead the delivery of Safety Assessments to agreed cost, time and quality requirements.
• Act as Design Authority and Intelligent Customer for externally delivered Safety Assessments.
• Determine appropriate assessment methodologies and ensure assessments are structured effectively and remain fit for purpose.
• Undertake peer reviews of Safety Assessments produced internally and by the supply chain.
• Provide expert technical advice to the site on the detailed content of Safety Cases.
• Maintain and support the application of Safety Case Assessment and Management Procedures.
• Provide Safety Case support and specialist technical input to the site.
• Act as a Tactical Safety Advisor, providing safety advice during emergency response situations.
• Maintain personal accountability for Continuing Professional Development.
• Support the development and continuous improvement of safety assessment processes and practices.

Professional qualifications

• Degree qualified in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline.
• Previous experience working directly as a Radiological, Chemotoxic or Nuclear Safety Assessor.
• Proven experience as a competent Safety Assessor and Peer Reviewer.
• Detailed knowledge of how specialist disciplines contribute to the development of a Nuclear Safety Case.
• Thorough understanding of the UK regulatory framework and regulatory expectations relating to safety assessments.
• Experience across the different stages of the Safety Case lifecycle.
• Experience of working with Safety Cases from other nuclear licensees would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of uranium hexafluoride (UF6) hazards would be beneficial.
