Job summary

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Band 6 radiographer to join our Radiotherapy treatment delivery teams across Withington, Macclesfield and Oldham. You will lead and supervise staff operating radiotherapy equipment, and manage a diverse workload under the supervision of Superintendent Radiographers.

HCPC registration is required. Shifts run 06:00–23:00, with responsibilities to ensure safe, accurate operation, record-keeping and ongoing development of the service within a busy

  • Band 6 radiographer with experience in radiotherapy delivery.
  • Experience leading and supervising radiotherapy staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise staff operating radiotherapy equipment.
  • Manage a diverse workload of patients in the Radiotherapy service.
  • Ensure safety and accuracy of machine operation through checks and variances reporting.
  • Position patients accurately along the radiotherapy pathway and document appropriately.
  • Contribute to service development and maintain high standards of care.

Job description

We are looking for hardworking team players to join us in the friendly Radiotherapy treatment delivery teams at all The Christie sites-Withington, Macclesfield and Oldham. The Band 6 position is a key member of the treatment team and is encouraged to contribute towards the development of the treatment delivery service. All sites have Elekta LinAcs. We are looking for experienced radiographers in treatment delivery, who are enthusiastic and motivated to take responsibility for running our treatment machines and managing a diverse workload of patients in the Radiotherapy service. They will be expected to lead and supervise staff operating the equipment under the direct supervision of the Superintendent Radiographers. Successful applicants will have wide experience with radiotherapy equipment and treatment techniques, be highly motivated and have excellent communication andinterpersonal skills. We are looking for applicants with a commitment to developing themselves, the team, and the Radiotherapy Service. HCPC registration required. We have several positions available including fixed term and permanent positions. Shift patterns between 06:00am and 23:00pm, To lead, co-ordinate, supervise and manage a team of staff operating radiotherapy equipment and act as lead practitioner, making assessments and key decisions regarding workload management, patient care, and treatment.To ensure that the highly complex radiotherapy and imaging equipment is safe and accurate to operate, both for staff and patients, undertaking the appropriate machine checks, reporting any variances, faults, and malfunctions as necessary.Evaluate delivery of radiotherapy through application and interpretation of treatment verification proceduresFollow appropriate systems and working methods to achieve the safe, timely achievement of workload targets.Be able to accurately position patient and operate highly complex radiotherapy and imaging equipment along the radiotherapy pathway. Keep accurate records and comply with necessary policies and procedures.Analyse systematically and evaluate all data and information relevant to patients' diagnosis, ensuring the patient and their relatives are treated with dignity and respect at all times.Communicate confidential sensitive information, and provide emotional support, to patients and their carers/relatives including children and the terminally ill. Provide information to patients and their carers regarding the radiotherapy pathway and expected side effects.To implement the procedures and work instructions described for the department in the accredited Quality Management System and report any variances. The Christie is one of Europe's leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year.
